Excelsior ‘Train the Trainer’ course

The DSA Official Register of Driving Instructor Trainers

Train with Excelsior to become an Ordit registered trainer. We offer a comprehensive training package covering all the elements required to achieve Ordit status. From highly experienced and qualified trainers who has been through many previous DSA Ordit assessments.

James of course achieved grade 6 on latest Ordit and check tests. This is the real measure of quality training, the Ordit and check test grades.

In today’s competitive market it is important to develop an edge over the competition, and you can look forward to a rewarding and profitable future.

Excelsior’s course covers all the elements required for you to become one of the top trainers. It is our belief that all this industry's problems stem from poor initial training, Excelsior are here to change that, and have developed a high quality training course to develop and enhance your existing skills and knowledge.

Ordit Registration

Excelsior will guide you through the process, it is important to remember the ORDIT badge belongs to the individual ADI, and if you work for another organisation you will not require a premises certificate, although you still must complete accurate records.

If you intend to work for yourself then you will need to obtain both premises and trainer’s certificates. Contrary to popular belief you do not need a fixed actual office, and can use your vehicle in effect as your office. Both the trainer and premises are inspected biannually for quality assurance.

Please remember as with all Excelsior’s courses they prepare you to be a quality trainer, if you are after a quick training regime to get you through an inspection that is staged as per a PST, then you have come to the wrong place, our training regime prepares you to deliver a structured training syllabus to your trainees from beginning to end, to prepare them to be quality driving instructors, and ultimately raise the standards of  Driving Instruction in the UK

Course training syllabus

(As with all Excelsior’s quality courses, this is subject to change to suit the individual ADI’s requirements)

  • ADI competency assessment parts 1 2 and 3 To produce a formulated training package to suit the individual trainee
  • Record keeping required for Ordit An overview of the paperwork and premises inspection requirements, including a full personalized structured training syllabus in electronic form for your future clients
  • Ordit requirements and training regimes Including check test training/ADI CPD and ADI training
  • Driving Ability training If required raising the level of driving ability
  • Parts 1 2 and 3 of the qualification procedure To develop an understanding of the different parts and a structured delivery of the separate elements

  • Role play training To develop an understanding of realistic role play
  • Levels of ability How to portray and determine differing levels of ability and the relevance to PST’s
  • Pre set test marking sheets To develop a thorough understanding of the principles and marking system, including fault portrayal relevant to particular PST’s
  • Recapping/Aims and objectives How to deliver yourself and advise your clients on the correct procedure
  • The differing levels of instruction To develop a thorough understanding of the way levels of instruction should be used for you and your clients and the reasoning behind this
  • Lesson planning and structure To determine how lessons should be planned and structured both in part 3 and the real world, for you as a trainer and for your trainees, including route planning for you and your trainees
  • Question and answer techniques The correct delivery and reasoning behind the use of Q and for the trainer and trainee
  • The core competencies The aim is make you the best, then you can train others to be as good as you, your use on your trainees and developing your trainees to use them correctly

As with the ADI training industry there is an idea you have to pay up front to undertake this training. Not true. See price list for details. For the current DSA inspection prices please contact Excelsior Training
You will be trained to a high standard and not trained just to deliver pre set exercises.

'For a full detailed syllabus or meeting to discuss use contact form.

Training hours will depend on the individual ADI’s current experience and capabilities. It is desirable that ADI’s have experience in the industry before training others to become ADI’s. Excelsior recommend at least three years experience before training the trainers.

This is our professional approach, the DSA consider one year ok in theory.

Anticipated timescales would be approx 6-10 days training, this training is well beyond the normal training offered by other organisations. For a recommendation from a previous course graduate see testimonials section

The DSA ORDIT examination form

As with all DSA instructional ability tests the overall result is determined by the core competencies. Obviously to achieve the required result there, the overall instructional techniques are vital.
It is important to remember a tutor is marked on his/her instructional techniques and core competencies used on the trainee, as well as improving the trainees instructional techniques and core competencies.
For example a tutor may identify a trainee’s weakness, analyse why the trainee had a weakness, analyse the consequences of that weakness, and remedy the weakness.
